A teenager is to be sentenced next month after he admitted stabbing a man in the chest.

David Young, 19, attacked 23-year-old Brandon Masterson, from Cwmcarn, in the Pantside area of Newbridge in May.

David Young, 19, of Bryncoed Terrace, Penpedairheol, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court and admitted charges wounding with intent and the possession of an offensive weapon, namely a kitchen knife.

He had initially been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after police were called.

The attack happened at around 7.55pm on Thursday, May 28, on Old Pant Road.

Mr Masterson suffered a stab wound to his chest and following treatment at the Royal Gwent Hospital, has been discharged.

Young was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on August 7.
