Manor house hosts first wedding since lockdown

Llancaiach Fawr Manor has hosted its first wedding since reopening.

The 16th century manor house, near Nelson, partially reopened on July 16 having been closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Daniel and Karen Devine got married at the venue’s Great Hall on Thursday (July 23) – with their five children, as well as Karen’s mother, father and step-mother in attendance.

The ceremony was followed by celebratory drinks in the manor gardens.

Councillor Lisa Phipps, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet member for homes, places and tourism, said: “It was lovely to see the Manor come to life again, to welcome people back to this stunning venue and have their wedding with us is very special.

“We are hoping to be able to hold more ceremonies soon and eventually wedding receptions, when Welsh Government guidance allows.”

Llancaiach Fawr, which is managed by the council, reopened its gift shop on July 16 following the easing of Wales’ lockdown restrictions on visitor attractions.

The cafe has also reopened, with outdoor seating and takeaway available. The cafe is open from Monday to Saturday, with a takeaway meal available on Sundays.
