Cleaning firm plans revamp of former bank building

A cleaning company in Newport is seeking planning permission to open a new base at a former bank building.

Proposals submitted to the city council show J Phillips, of OCDCDS Limited, is seeking to change the use of 159-161 Chepstow Road.

The building was formerly a bank and most recently housed a funeral director business, but according to planning documents has been vacant since 2024.

In a supporting statement, planning agents at Sustainable Studio Architects said the applicant intends to “repurpose” the site “to offer commercial spaces in line with current demands and trends”.

The applicant is “an established Newport cleaning company” and is also considering opening “a health and wellness element to the building which will offer a small selection of treatments for pre-booked clients”.

“By relocating to a larger head office, it will provide OCDCDS the opportunity to expand as a business,” the agents added.

The application is currently under consideration, and can be viewed on the Newport City Council website under reference 25/0959.
