Machen RFC’s youth side have finished the season unbeaten and secured both league and cup silverware.
After going 20 games unbeaten in the top division of the Dragons League, team manager Eifion Thomas spoke Caerphilly Observer about his side’s successful season: “We came into the season expecting good things but this has been something else.
“We’ve had these players for over a decade now and it’s been great to see their development. They put us in the top division and we showed up every week winning big games against local rivals.”
As well as winning the league, Machen Youth also lifted the Gwent and Caerphilly District Cup over the weekend with a win over Blackwood Youth to claim a famous league double.
On the success, Thomas said: “Winning became a habit for us honestly. The boys didn’t need any motivating and they were focused all season.
“The cup win was great, especially over a rival, and everyone celebrated long into the night.
“We’re going to lose half the players to the senior side next year but we have a good bunch of under-16s who should come through and keep us competitive.”
