Caerphilly Athletic's clash with Aber Valley was abandoned after heated scenes
Caerphilly Athletic’s clash with Aber Valley was abandoned last year after a fight broke out

Six people have been suspended across Aber Valley FC and Caerphilly Athletic FC after a fight last year resulted in a 59-year-old man going to hospital.

The South Wales Alliance Premier League match, which was played at the Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach, was eventually abandoned at 1-1 close to full-time.

Gwent Police were called to the local derby on Saturday December 9, 2023, where a 59-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment following the fight.

After several months of investigations, the South Wales Football Association has announced which players and coaches have been suspended, and for how long.

Every player and coach listed has been suspended from “all aspects of football”.

Aber Valley

  • Dean Wood, ten matches;
  • Garron Wiltshire, six matches;
  • Neil Lloyd Meek, 12 matches;
  • Glenn Richards, eight matches.

Caerphilly Athletic

  • Jason Gardiner, six matches;
  • Joey Morelli, six matches.

All of these suspensions began as of March 27, 2024.

The two sides played each other in an incident-free derby at Abertridwr Park on Saturday April 6.
