Ystrad Mynach prepares to host women’s international rugby match

Ystrad Mynach’s Centre for Sporting Excellence is set to host one of five international women’s rugby matches, as the U20s transatlantic quad series comes to Wales.

It will be the first time Wales has hosted the series, with Liza Burgess’ squad hoping to perform against Canada, England, and the USA.

Wales U20s toured Canada last summer, returning home with a 39-12 victory over Canada in Ottawa after a narrow 28-27 defeat to USA in the first game of the tour.

While most of the games will be played at Cardiff Arms Park, the Welsh Rugby Union has confirmed USA v Canada will be played in Ystrad Mynach on Sunday July 14.

Speaking ahead of the series, head coach Burgess said: “We look forward to hosting Canada and the USA from the across the Atlantic and, of course, our near neighbours England for what will be an exciting tournament to showcase the exciting young talent all four nations have in the women’s game.

“The series will follow on from the U20s Six Nations in Parma early in July, so this will prove a tough and demanding month for the players and will be a test of our resilience, but it is a challenge we are excited about.”

Kick-off on Sunday July 14 will be at 5.30pm, and entry is free.
