David Vincent

Former Cambrian United defender David Vincent has been announced as the latest Trethomas Bluebirds signing, providing a “wealth” of Cymru Premier and Cymru South experience.

The 34-year-old from Cardiff has played for several top clubs across Wales, including Barry Town, Carmarthen Town, and Pontypridd United.

Vincent will look to bring experience and stability at the centre back position, as the Bluebirds prepare for their debut season in the second tier of Welsh football having topped the Ardal South East.

Speaking to Caerphilly Observer after the move, Vincent said: “I knew a couple of the lads here and had one or two texts asking if I’d be interested in coming across.

“I met with Mark and he really impressed me when talking about his vision for the club. I hope I can bring some experience to the squad.”

After a successful season with Cymru South side Cambrian United, who finished fourth, Vincent explained why other factors also brought him to Trethomas.

“I’ve just had my first little boy so being closer to home is great for me at this stage in my life. Everything just came into place at the right time.”

Asked about his first impressions of the club and the standard of training, Vincent added: “Every session is very well organised and there’s no standing around waiting.

“Dai (Matthew Jones) has been great running the sessions and for me the standard has been exactly what I’m used to at other top clubs. I’m impressed so far.”

On how he can help some of the players who are set to play at the Cymru South level for the first time, Vincent said: “I think that’s what Mark has brought me in to do. Being a centre half I get to see the game in front of me and I’ll be looking to organise from that position.”

Dunford commented on his new signing: “Vinny brings a wealth of Cymru Premier and JD Cymru South experience to the group. We felt that we needed this type of player, especially with the long term injury to Gwion Pugh-Jones.

“Vinny has settled in very well with the lads, which has been helped by some familiar faces from previous clubs. He is adapting to our style of play, of which he has been very receptive.”

The Bluebirds kick-off their 2024/25 season on July 19 in the first round of the Nathaniel MG Cup with an away trip to fellow Gwent side, Cwmbran Celtic.

Their first Cymru South league match however will be played on Saturday July 27, with the Bluebirds on the road up against Llantwit Major.
