Gerwyn Price was knocked-out in the quarter-finals
Gerwyn Price suffered defeat in the Players Championship 21 final

Markham’s Gerwyn Price was beaten in the Players Championship 21 final on Wednesday night, with Bradley Brooks winning his maiden PDC ProTour title.

Price fell to an 8-5 defeat to world number 73 Brooks in Leicester on July 9.

En route to the final, Price defeated Dave Chisnall 6-1 in the last 16, before beating Krzysztof Ratajski 6-2 in the quarter-finals.

He then booked his spot in the final with a 7-4 victory over Andrew Gilding in the semis.

Brooks meanwhile claimed scalps over James Wade and Josh Rock, before beating James Hurrell to set up the clash with former world champion Price.

A strong start from Brooks saw the 25-year-old Englishman surge into a 3-1 lead over Price.

Price hit back to trail 4-3, 5-4 and 6-5 – landing a 12-darter along the way – but crucially was never able to level, despite hitting five doubles from seven attempts.

Brooks finished 79 to move to the brink of victory at 7-5, and when Price uncharacteristically missed eight darts at doubles in the next leg, the Blackburn-born ace swooped to close out victory on tops.
