Markham’s Gerwyn Price has continued his rich vein of form with victory in the European Darts Open.

Price, fresh off the back of Premier League wins in Nottingham and Newcastle, saw off Dirk van Duijvenbode 8-7 in the European Open final in Leverkusen, Germany on Sunday March 26.

The Iceman beat Poland’s Krzysztof Ratajski in his first game in the competition on Saturday, before beating reigning world champion Michael Smith 6-2 in the third round on Sunday.

He then faced off against Michael van Gerwen – who he heavily beat in the Premier League final in Newcastle last week – in the quarter-finals, coming away with a 6-4 win.

It set up a semi-final encounter with another Dutchman, Danny Noppert – who was dispatched 7-4.

But the final proved a much tougher test for Price, who was forced to come back from 3-1 down and then 7-6 down, surviving two missed match darts before clinching the win.

“I’m happy to get the win,” said Price, who is now level with Peter Wright on seven European Tour wins.

“I played brilliant darts all weekend apart from the final. It was a slow game – I had to dig in and grind out the win, and without this crowd behind me it’s really difficult.

“This weekend the crowd have been fantastic. I’m back in Germany next weekend so hopefully they’ll support me again.”

Price returns to Premier League action on Thursday March 30, taking on 2022 world champion Peter Wright in the opening tie in Berlin.

The action will continue in Germany between March 31 and April 2, with Price competing in the International Darts Open in the town of Riesa, with a £175,000 prize up for grabs.
