Gerwyn Price, left, and Rhys Griffin lost in their opening rounds at the UK Open

It was a disappointing weekend for darts stars Gerwyn Price and Rhys Griffin, who both crashed out of the UK Open in the early stages.

World number 71 Griffin, from Llanbradach, entered the competition in the second round, but was beaten 6-1 by Beau Greaves.

Two-time Women’s World Matchplay champion Greaves, who is ranked 126th on the PDC Order of Merit, was in fine form at the competition.

However, her tournament came to an end when she was beaten by world number one Luke Humphries in the fourth round.

It was in that same round where Markham’s Gerwyn Price entered the fray. However, the Iceman suffered a slender 10-9 loss to world number 59 Connor Scutt.

The UK Open was eventually won by 17-year-old reigning world champion Luke Littler, who thrashed James Wade 11-2 in the final on Sunday night.

The 158-player event was held at the Butlin’s resort in Minehead between Friday February 28 and Sunday March 2.
