Staff and retailers at Caerphilly’s Castle Court Shopping Centre are taking on a collective 620-mile fitness challenge this July to raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance.
More than 20 participants are running, walking, cycling, or rolling at least a mile every day throughout the month.
The fundraiser, named the Castle Conquest, sees the team track their progress by virtually travelling between historic castles across Wales, starting from their base opposite Caerphilly Castle.
The team aims to raise at least £500 for the charity, which is marking its 25th anniversary this year.
Participants have already covered more than 428 miles during the first two weeks of July, virtually reaching Dolbadarn Castle in Snowdonia.
Centre manager Hannah Clark said the challenge had created a strong team spirit across the shopping centre: “The castle theme seemed the perfect fit given our location opposite Caerphilly Castle, and it’s been brilliant seeing colleagues, retailers, and friends all playing their part.
“Every mile we complete takes us a little further on our virtual journey around Wales while helping raise funds for an organisation that provides an essential service every single day.”
The Wales Air Ambulance relies entirely on public donations and must raise around £13 million every year to keep its helicopters and rapid response vehicles running.
Since launching on St David’s Day in 2001, the charity has attended more than 57,000 missions across Wales.
Residents can support the team by donating via the online fundraising page or by speaking to staff at the shopping centre.
