Welsh cycling sensation Geraint Thomas has called upon Crumlin bakery Brace’s to help him finish this year’s Tour de France.

The Olympic cyclist has been sent a supply of the firm’s Welsh cakes to enjoy during the last leg of the tournament.

The Whitchurch-born star told Brace’s his Welsh cake stocks were running low because of their popularity with other cyclists on the tour and the family firm duly obliged.

Thomas, who is looking forward to the finale in Paris on Sunday, said: “I am really enjoying the contest and I look forward to my Brace’s Welsh cake fix at the end of a hard day of gruelling cycling.

“I am really chuffed with the delivery and have found that some of the other lads have enjoyed the taste of them too. The Welsh cakes are delicious and when other cyclists have been asking what a Welsh cake is, I’ve always keen to offer them one of Brace’s to try for themselves.”

The 25-year-old Olympic Gold medallist has had success during this year’s Tour. He rode himself onto a podium last week and was recognised as the most ‘aggressive’ rider on Stage 12.

Scott Richardson, sales and marketing director at Brace’s, said: “At Brace’s we always endeavour to promote a healthy diet and active lifestyle and Geraint is the perfect example of this.

“Like Geraint, Brace’s is very proud to be Welsh and the way Geraint is representing Wales like this whilst telling people all about Brace’s Welsh cakes, is just fantastic. We all have our fingers crossed that they continue to enjoy a fantastic success.”
