Police warning after girl, 13, approached by stranger in car in Crumlin

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:08, Friday June 1st, 2012.

Police have issued warning to the public to be cautious after a 13-year-old was approached by a stranger in a car in Crumlin.

The girl was walking along North Road in Crumlin between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Thursday May 31 when a burgundy car, described as old and similar to a Ford Focus pulled up alongside her.

The male driver of the car tried talking to the girl, who ignored him and ran off. Police have said no physical contact was made between the two.

He described as being white, in his late 20s, of muscular build and with a bald head. He had a front tooth missing and was wearing a light coloured vest.

Inspector Mark Smith said: “We take reports of this nature very seriously and officers are conducting enquiries to locate the vehicle concerned and the person responsible.

“I would emphasise to children and teenagers not to enter an unknown vehicle under any circumstances. If you are approached by a stranger asking you to enter a vehicle, please report it to police or tell a parent/ teacher straight away.”

Anyone with information relating to this incident or the vehicle involved should contact 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
