Tributes have been made to the Markham cyclist who died after a collision in Crumlin earlier this week.

Paul Jones, 60, from Markham died following a collision on the A472, Hafodyrynys Road at about 7.20am on Monday August 12.

Mr Jones, who was originally from Cwmbran and moved to Markham 17 years ago, leaves behind wife Angela, son Paul and grandsons Joshua and Samuel.

Hi wife Angela said: “He loved cycling and keeping fit – he was not your average 60-year-old. He was super fit and looked many years younger than his actual age.

“He was originally from the Cwmbran area, but moved to Markham approximately 17 years ago.

“Paul was my soul mate and I cannot imagine how I will face my life without him. He was also an amazing father and grandfather who took pleasure in spending time with them.

“Paul was someone who was ‘always on the go’ – he didn’t stop working, even when he was home.

We are lost without him.”

Mr Jones’ son said his father was a keep fit enthusiast and an avid cyclist.

He said: Fondly referred to as the robot due to his endless love of working, tragically taken from us years before his time.

“Words cannot describe the heartache, but it can be replaced in everlasting memory with the joy and never ending selflessness which he brought to all he knew and loved.

“Forever in our thoughts and hearts.”

  • A 51-year-old man, from the Porth area, and 59-year-old man, from the Ebbw Vale area have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
