Time Credits scheme a success in Lansbury Park and Graig y Rhacca

News | | Published: 10:59, Thursday March 9th, 2017.

A community work scheme which rewards volunteers with incentives has seen nearly 300 residents take part.

The Lansbury Park and Graig Y Rhacca Time Credits Scheme has gone from strength to strength, with 280 volunteers getting involved between July and December last year.

Working on the mantra of ‘give an hour, get an hour’, volunteers can earn time credits by helping in the community and can spend them at a variety of locations across South Wales, including leisure centres, theatres, and even on tickets to sporting events.

Community activities included paining, gardening, and weekly litter picks, and volunteers’ hard work was rewarded with craft workshops and a trip to the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff.

Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development, said: “I am delighted that the time credits scheme continues to encourage residents to come together and work for the good of their local community.”
