Defibrillators installed in Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen

Four life-saving defibrillators have been installed in the area of Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen.

The machines have been installed outside Bedwas Workmen’s Hall, Bedwas Post Office, Tesco Express in Trethomas, and Machen Pharmacy.

The defibrillators were bought by The Tommy Cooper Society and CRY in Memory of Jack Thomas.

The cases for the machines were paid for by BTM Community Council.

The idea to install the life-saving machines outside came from Cllr Amanda McConnell of BTM Community Council.

Before the four new devices were installed, there was just one external defibrillator available at The Rec in Machen which was installed by Machen Rugby Club.

All schools in the BTM area have defibrillators but are not accessible when they are closed.

The Tommy Cooper Society launched its ‘Tommy’s Ticker’ campaign in 2013 and has donated equipment to ten locations across the Caerphilly area.

The CRY in Memory of Jack Thomas appeal has raised over £67,000 and delivered more than 50 defibrillators to schools in memory of Oakdale teenager Jack Thomas who died in 2012.

Great to see yet more defibrillators put into local communities – thanks to the generosity of these two organisations.
They will hopefully assist in saving lives in these communities.
