Gwent Police has launched a new campaign encouraging people to reach out to those who may be suffering from domestic abuse.
The ReadBetweenTheLines campaign is encouraging people to seek support and spot the signs of abusive behaviour.
It also includes advice on how to alert the police silently using 999.
Concerns have risen recently that the number of reported incidents of domestic abuse has dropped during the coronavirus lockdown.
Campaigners have warned that social restrictions in place could heighten domestic tensions in households and cut off escape routes for those suffering abuse.
Pam Kelly, chief constable for Gwent Police, said: “At this time, when we are all being asked to stay at home to save lives, we know that home is not a sanctuary for everyone so it’s important that we all work together to help those in need.
“Keep in touch with family members and friends, if there is someone who needs help speak to them. They may not be ready to talk to you but there are many organisations that offer support and advice.
“Domestic abuse does not discriminate – anyone can be a victim regardless of age, gender, sexuality or social background and of course it is not always a crime that is clearly visible, it can be hidden, so we need to really look out for, and help those struggling.
“Working together we can make a difference in supporting the most vulnerable members of our community.”

The helpline also offers a text service on 07860 077 333, while Gwent Police are also available on Facebook and Twitter.
