Plans to reopen Cwmcarn Forest Drive have been postponed due to ongoing lockdown restrictions, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has announced.

Cwmcarn Forest Drive was set to reopen for a trial period at the end of March before officially reopening during the Easter holidays.

No date has been given for when the attraction will reopen, with Wales currently under Alert Level 4 lockdown restrictions.

The drive has been closed since 2014 due to a tree disease, which meant around 70% of the trees on the site had to be cut down.

In recent months, new play areas, a story-telling area, learning facilities, trails, seating areas and picnic spots have been set up at the site ready for its reopening.

NRW’s Geminie Drinkwater said: “We know that the redevelopments at Cwmcarn Forest Drive have been highly anticipated and we are really looking forward to welcoming visitors back to explore the new attractions.

“However, reducing the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and protecting people’s health and safety remains the country’s top priority.

“We hope that people understand the reasons behind the decision to postpone the unveiling.”

Ms Drinkwater added: “We hope that people will be hugely impressed by this exciting new recreational offer. But for now, we ask that everyone continues to do their bit to keep Wales safe, and to avoid non-essential travel to our sites, knowing that it will be worth the wait when we are able to welcome you back.”
