School pupils have been busy designing their own Snoopy sculptures, which will be displayed across Caerphilly town centre this Spring.
The statues, inspired by the iconic Peanuts comic strip character Snoopy, will appear from April 8 and will be up until June 5.
They will be located at Caerphilly railway station, Cardiff Road, Dafydd Williams Park, Crescent Road, Morgan Jones Park and Castle Court Shopping Centre.
Two of the schools involved in designing the sculptures are Bryn Awel Primary School in Rhymney and Fochriw Primary School.
The pupils held a school competition to design their sculpture, with the Bryn Awel school council and Fochriw Primary School eco committee judging the designs before working on bringing their Snoopy to life.
The designs were based on showing pride in their local area, with the Darran Valley depicted in the artwork.
Sharon Pacoe, headteacher at Fochriw Primary, said: “The project is a magical opportunity to celebrate each school’s ingenuity, driven by our enterprising creative pupils whilst supporting a good cause.”
Mrs Pascoe said it was an “honour” to have the school’s Snoopy displayed as part of the trail this Spring.
Elsewhere, Year 7 pupils at St Martin’s School in Caerphilly town also created their own Snoopy designs, with the LGBT+ inspired design, created by pupil Megan Phillips, winning first place in the school competition.

As part of the project, the school focused on themes such as inclusivity, mental health and self-esteem.
Each sculpture will be sponsored by a business or individual and will be auctioned after the campaign to raise further funds for Dog’s Trust.
There will also be Snoopy sculptures in Cardiff and Porthcawl.
