Last summer, the much-loved Bluebell Woods, near Llanbradach, was dug up by contractors, with plans to create a five-pitch caravan site on the land.
The owner of the land, believed to be businessman Karl O’Dare, did not seek planning permission before digging up the site – with excavation works stopped by Caerphilly County Borough Council on August 1.
There was outrage from residents, who have enjoyed the land for generations.

Following condemnation and protests from residents and local politicians alike, the landowner backed out of plans following talks with the council – with the council confirming work would be carried out to restore the fields.
Now, the freehold of the land, which covers around 31 acres, has been put up for auction – with a guide price of £170,000.
It is being auctioned by the Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions between January 31 and February 2.

Speaking to Caerphilly Observer, Llanbradach ward councillor Colin Mann said: “It’s not a surprise, but it’s disappointing when promises were made to restore the fields.
“The campaign will have to continue.”
Cllr Mann said he’s been told by the council’s planning department that whoever buys the land would be obligated to restore the fields – as pledged by the current owner.
This was confirmed to Caerphilly Observer by the council, which said the obligation to address “an unacceptable breach of planning control” runs with the land itself, not the land owner.
