Newport Crown Court

A man charged with attempted murder following a car crash in Caerphilly is set to face trial next April.

Liam Skym, of no fixed abode, Energlyn, appeared before Newport Crown Court on November 24.

It came after a car crashed into a tree on Mountain Road at around 9.50am on Wednesday October 25.

Skym faces five charges, including attempted murder and drug driving.

He pleaded guilty to two of those charges at Newport Crown Court, including dangerous driving and drug driving.

He pleaded not guilty to the other three charges, including attempted murder, aggravated vehicle taking and harassment (breach of a restraining order on conviction).

His guilty pleas, however, were not accepted by the prosecution – meaning Skym will have to face trial on all five charges.

His next hearing will be for a pre-trial review on January 15, 2024 at either Newport or Cardiff Crown Court.

Skym’s trial is listed for April 2, 2024.
