Rugby round-up: Blackwood, Caerphilly, and Rhymney top after wins

Bargoed suffered their second defeat of the league season on Saturday November 9, falling 46-21 away to title challengers Neath in the WRU Premiership.

The defeat sees the Bulls remain in fourth, eight points off league leaders Pontypridd.

Elsewhere in the Premiership, Newbridge drop to sixth, despite not playing over the weekend, while Cross Keys – who also didn’t play – sit in ninth place.

Heading down to the National Championship East, Penallta came up short in a 29-21 loss at league leaders Beddau, while Ynysddu were beaten convincingly – losing 42-10 at Rumney.

However, there was a resounding win for Bedwas – who crushed Mountain Ash 74-10 away from home to surge into second place in the table.

Over in Division 1 East, Senghenydd are up into sixth after a 31-28 win over Abergavenny at home, but Nelson drop to fourth after their visit to struggling Blaenavon was postponed.

Down in Division 2 East, league leaders Blackwood have extended their winning start to the campaign to seven games, following a 41-20 win at home to winless Risca, who are rooted to the foot of the table.

Abercarn, who are just one place above Risca, were beaten 38-17 at second-place Blaina.

Meanwhile, unbeaten Caerphilly have made it seven wins from seven in Division 2 East Central, beating Cardiff Quins 15-10 at Virginia Park.

Another team at the top of their respective league following the weekend’s action are Rhymney – who climb to the Division 3 East summit after beating Newport Saracens 36-24 at home.

They leapfrog Fleur de Lys, who fall off top spot after a 20-15 defeat at Caerleon.

Elsewhere, Machen got the better of Abertysswg Falcons in an all-Caerphilly County Borough affair – winning 50-32 in a high-scoring clash.

It sees Machen climb to fifth, while the Falcons remain in ninth.

Bottom of the table are Oakdale, who suffered their sixth defeat in six – losing 28-5 at home to Nantyglo.

Elsewhere, Pontllanfraith stay bottom of Division 4 East, following a slender 26-24 home defeat to second-place Crickhowell.

However, they were the only borough side in action in that division, with Bedwellty‘s clash with Whiteheads postponed, and Crumlin having no fixture scheduled.

Dropping down to Division 5 East, Hollybush secured a 31-14 victory at home to third-place Blackwood Stars, and move up to sixth.

However, there was defeat for Hafodyrynys, who were beaten 24-16 on the road at Magor.

Elsewhere, Deri were denied a chance to extend their winning streak in the league to five games, as their game with Hartridge was called off.

But there was a big victory for Division 6 East A for Trinant, who ended league leaders New Tredegar‘s unbeaten start to the season with a 19-18 win.

Elsewhere, Cwmcarn United fell to their fourth defeat in as many games after losing 43-31 to Girling away.

Finally, Penallta Athletic claimed a 22-19 win over Brecon Athletic in Ystrad Mynach over the weekend to move up to sixth. However, Bargoed Athletic fell off top spot with a 31-12 home loss to St Peters Athletic.
