St David’s Hospice Care is organising a charity walk to the top of Twmbarlwm

A charity walk to the top of Twmbarlwm is being held to celebrate the summer solstice this weekend, and raise money for St David’s Hospice Care.

The five-mile walk begins at Cwmcarn Forest Drive at 7pm on Saturday June 21, where walkers will set off towards the summit of the 419-metre high iron age hillfort.

The entry fee is £5, with registration starting at Cwmcarn Forest Drive’s visitor centre car park at 6.30pm.

The route will follow the Twmbarlwm path, giving walkers the chance to soak up the sunset on Twmbarlwm before heading back to the visitor centre.

At the start of the walk, musician Anna Young will be playing a range of songs. At the top of Twmbarlwm, bagpiper Matthew Bartlett will be performing for the walkers as the sun sets.

Those taking part are advised to bring wet weather clothing, sensible footwear, snacks, and a torch, while picnic rugs and blankets are also encouraged.

The challenge has been described as a “light/medium difficulty evening hike”.

Rugby club raises almost £2,000 for St David’s Hospice

Everyone who takes part will receive refreshments at the start and finish, along with a bottle of water, a glow stick, and walker number and pins. Participants will also receive first aid cover, marshal support, and support with fundraising.

Participants aged 18 and over will also be given a Tiny Rebel craft beer.

Medals will also be given out to everyone who completes the walk.

There is no minimum age to take part, but anyone younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 25 at all times.

“Well-behaved” dogs on leads can also be be brought along.

Visit the St David’s Hospice Care website for more information.
