A former pub in Bargoed could be developed further to include a new takeaway, with flats above.

The McDonnell, at the corner of McDonnell Road and St Gwladys Avenue, was previously converted to create a convenience store on the ground floor.

New plans submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council show how the rest of the ground-floor level could be redesigned, allowing for its use as a restaurant and takeaway.

The applicant, Ayyan Properties Ltd, is seeking planning permission for a new counter area and seating, as well as minor changes to an existing kitchen.

Meanwhile, the existing convenience store could be extended to also include a part of the former pub described as a “bar lounge”.

On the first floor, the applicant has proposed creating four new homes, comprising one two-bedroom flat and three one-bedroom flats.

Each of the flats would have an open plan kitchen and living room, as well as a shower room.

The loft area of the premises would also be converted for residential use, according to the designs.

Two more one-bedroom flats, along with a two-bedroom flat, would be created in that space.

The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 25/0825/COU.
