Takeaway and flats proposed for site of former pub

A former pub in Bargoed could be developed further to include a new takeaway, with flats above.

The McDonnell, at the corner of McDonnell Road and St Gwladys Avenue, was previously converted to create a convenience store on the ground floor.

New plans submitted to Caerphilly County Borough Council show how the rest of the ground-floor level could be redesigned, allowing for its use as a restaurant and takeaway.

The applicant, Ayyan Properties Ltd, is seeking planning permission for a new counter area and seating, as well as minor changes to an existing kitchen.

Former pub set to go under the hammer

Meanwhile, the existing convenience store could be extended to also include a part of the former pub described as a “bar lounge”.

On the first floor, the applicant has proposed creating four new homes, comprising one two-bedroom flat and three one-bedroom flats.

Each of the flats would have an open plan kitchen and living room, as well as a shower room.

The loft area of the premises would also be converted for residential use, according to the designs.

Two more one-bedroom flats, along with a two-bedroom flat, would be created in that space.

The application is currently out for consultation, and can be viewed on the Caerphilly County Borough Council website under reference 25/0825/COU.
