Groundwork Caerphilly in further £300,000 boost

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:00, Wednesday November 17th, 2010.

Environmental and community charity Groundwork Caerphilly has been boosted by a £300,000 grant.

The Welsh Assembly Government gave the green light to a £300,000 grant from the Community Facilities and Activities Programme (CFAP). The money will be spent on new training facilities at Groundwork Caerphilly’s Ty Mynyddislwyn base in Pontllanfraith.

In September, Groundwork Caerphilly was given £730,000 from the Big Lottery Fund which allowed it to take ownership of the Ty Mynyddislwyn building from Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The charity now plans to open an Environment Centre in the building which will offer employment and training advice, environmental volunteering and the promotion of sustainability.

Katy Hollings, executive director of Groundwork, said: “This investment signals an exciting new future for Groundwork Caerphilly and we are delighted with the support from our partners and local community.

“We now look forward to progressing our ambitious plans that will benefit many local people and allow us to implement even more environmental improvements across the area.”

Councillor Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration and countryside, said: “We were delighted to transfer the historic Ty Mynyddislwyn building over to our partners at Groundwork Caerphilly and this latest funding announcement provides the last piece of the jigsaw to allow their plans to proceed.

“I hope we can continue to work closely with Groundwork Caerphilly and look forward to seeing the positive results that this close partnership will bring to our community in the future.”
