Health chief named new NHS Wales boss

News | | Published: 10:59, Monday June 2nd, 2014.

The chief executive of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has been appointed the new head of the NHS in Wales.

Liverpool-born Dr Andrew Goodall has worked in the NHS for 23 years and succeeds David Sissling, who was appointed chief executive of Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust earlier this year.

The Welsh Government said Dr Goodall had worked in Wales for most of his life, having moved to the country at a young age.

He has a law degree from Essex University and a Ph.D in health service management from Cardiff Business School.

He became Aneurin Bevan University Health Board’s chief executive in June 2009, and has led a number of national programmes and initiatives.

He said: “I, of course, understand the pressures and expectations that the NHS faces, but also know that we have the responsibility and opportunity to make the necessary changes, including how we balance delivering our services with focusing on improving the long-term health of the Welsh population.”

Dr Goodall will head the Welsh Government’s Department for Health and Social Services in addition to being chief executive of NHS Wales.

He is set begin his new job in June, while the health board’s deputy chief executive, Judith Paget is set to be appointed acting chief executive.

This beggars belief when in the last fortnight waiting times lists in the royal gwent has gone up and the number of cancelled operations has gone up aswell. What a fiasco?
There should be an enquiry into the running of the hospital under martin Turner, Andrew cotton and Andrew goodall who have repeated the same mistakes time and time again during the last decade and whilst still being paid high salaries this should be actioned at the very least.

How does this represent the people of wales if the population is around 3 million and only 14,500 filled it in ( I never saw it in any newspapers) the WAG need to stop treating the general public like mushrooms:
