Jocelyn Davies, the Plaid Cymru AM for South Wales East, has announced she will be stepping down from the National Assembly at the 2016 election.
Ms Davies, who was one of the original members of the Assembly in 1999, served as a Deputy Minister for Housing and Regeneration in the Plaid-Labour One Wales Government between 2007 and 2011. She was the party’s business manager for more than 13 years.
Ms Davies is highly respected by all political parties and is acknowledged as a very effective Assembly Member. She currently chairs the Assembly’s Finance Committee.
She was born in 1959 and attended Newbridge Grammar school. Jocelyn Davies is a former Borough Councillor in Caerphilly and was one of the first lay-inspectors of schools in 1993. She read Law at Oxford’s University Harris-Manchester College.
In a message to party members, Jocelyn Davies said: “I have been an Assembly Member since the Assembly began in 1999 and have enjoyed contributing to the continued growth in both the functions and powers of the Assembly and its acceptance by the majority of the people of Wales.
“The next Assembly will lay the foundations for a further increase in the powers of the Assembly, with the powers to increase borrowing being one of the first steps on this path.
“It will be a new and exciting period and I feel that with these new powers and with the increasing prominence that the Assembly will play in the lives of the people of Wales, it is time for a new generation of Plaid Cymru politicians, with a fresh outlook, to take the party and the Assembly forward to the next stage of the devolution journey.”
I don’t suppose it will make much difference whether she is there or not.
Richard: She was the only member who reacted to a request to meet with the residents Association over the stupid idea for The Caerphilly Town council to remove community space in our Community Centre, The Twyn, and use it as their office.
You and I both attended a meeting at which Jocelyn`s Colleague, now also am Assembly Member, agreed with the stupidity of his, Plaid Cymru party Councillors in Caerphilly, move to take space in the community Centre.
Whilst they did not influence their political friends ( Plaid Cymru) and prevent them taking over The Twyn Community Centre facilities, Labour Councillors and Assembly Members did not even acknowledge the Town Centre Residents Association plea to help town centre residents retain their Community centre for Community use. In fact, they totally ignored our requests to help.
Besides you being a local Independent Councillor You are also a Trustee of the Pensioners OWN. OWNED. Hall in Parc Lane Caerphilly, and as such I am sure you will acknowledge, for the benefit of all residents, pensioners ( well over 150 which attends the hall every week at four different activity events) their families and all other ratepayers, Councillors and anyone else, that you and your fellow Trustees, fully maintain the operation of this hall without one penny from the public purse, yet the only people to have helped in your continueing work in this regard are, currently, local PLAID CYMRU COUNCILLORS who created the security of tenure to continue your good works.
How are those matters progressing since Labour Councillors took over the Borough council Richard.?.Well, I trust?.
A couple of unconnected matters here Tref, my original
comment was about the nature of the Cardiff Assembly, which has rarely ceased to disappoint me since the day it was founded. The bulk of the AMs are colourless, lacking in vision, and unidentifiable to the bulk of the population. Increasingly, especially whilst we are members of the EU, I do not
see the point of it. I admit I am as much to blame as anyone, I voted for devolution. I made a mistake, should have voted “N0!”
As you point out the AMs, even those stirred to interest in
the use of the Twyn Community Centre as a base for the Town Council, failed to do anything to prevent this. So, despite the Welsh Assembly being just a few miles away from this building, part of it was lost to our community.
On the subject of the Neaudd Y Parc hall we did indeed get
an agreement for a long term future from the Plaid Cymru administration. In this we were ably assisted and advised by Independent Ron Davies, who was a cabinet member in that administration. Ron achieved this in the teeth of opposition from council officers. This was back in 2010 to 2011, if I remember
correctly. Since then, of course, we have a change of administration of the Borough Council. In answer to the question, have things progressed well? I regret to say that there has been no progress at all and the future of the hall, which had been safeguarded by the previous administration, is in the
balance.
She doesn’t answer emails like many other AM’ s. How long do you serve before you get a pension? What pensions do AM’ s get?

another example of not answering emails.

Up to £123,600.00 per year with an annual increase linked the the Consumer Price Index.
As near as I can figure this pension is available after 12 months as an AM.
