Two men who stole iPhones and a tablet worth £2,000 from Carphone Warehouse crashed their getaway car before stealing a van and escaping.
Four iPhones and a Samsung tablet were stolen at 12.30pm on Monday, January 22, 2018, from the Caerphilly town store in Castle Court Shopping Centre.
Initially thought to be a robbery, Gwent Police has since confirmed that the thieves stole display models and did not threaten staff or customers. As such officers are not treating it as a robbery.
They have also since confirmed that one of the men hid his face with what is believed to be a balaclava.
Both men left the scene in a silver Nissan Primera heading towards Lansbury Park in the direction of Rudry.
After crashing the vehicle the men left the Nissan and stole a white Fiat Doblo van. Officers are still trying to trace the whereabouts of the Fiat Doblo van.
A Gwent Police spokeswoman said: “If anyone witnessed the theft of the mobile devices or the Fiat van or has any information please call 101 quoting log 208 22/1/18 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
The same store was also targeted by thieves in October last year when four Samsung mobiles worth £3,000 were stolen.
Asked if Carphone Warehouse was doing anything to increase security at the store, a spokesman for the company said: “The safety and wellbeing of all our staff and customers is our utmost priority.
“The investigation into this incident is ongoing and anyone with any further information should contact the local police.”

Far from asking what carphone warehouse are doing about their security, what are Gwent police doing about all these crimes? The answer is very little. Policing in all its forms from constsbles, CPO and council wardens have all vanished from our streets. How can this happen in the middle of the day is beyond me.
