Castle Gate’s Robi Ahmed celebrates the restaurant’s latest award

The third Welsh Restaurant Awards 2022 welcomed more than 150 guests at the Mercure Cardiff Holland House on Monday November 7, in a celebration of the Welsh restaurant industry.

The Welsh Restaurant Awards 2022 are a celebration of local businesses, where winners are a true reflection of quality and customer service, as they are chosen by members of the general public.

The awards recognised the hard work, determination, impeccable service and efforts of the best establishments and professionals in Wales that create and serve delicious dishes at an excellent standard.

The black tie event was hosted by radio presenter and host, Polly James.

Wales is known for its friendly people and their creative mindsets and innovative thinking that bring them to light in the business field they operate within. Wales combines flavours and tastes from all over the world, where visitors can find different restaurants to meet their needs.

Castle Gate, in Caerphilly, was in attendance at the award ceremony where it was announced they had won Indian Restaurant of the Year.

It was the second time they had won the award following success in 2018.

The restaurant, based on Castle View, Caerphilly, was also recently named the South East Five Star Indian Restaurant of the Year as well as the overall Five Star Indian Restaurant of the Year at this year’s Welsh Asian Food Awards.

Robi Ahmed, from Castle Gate, said: “Our continued success is down to the hard work from the Castle Gate team and we’d like to thank our customers.”

A spokesperson for The Welsh Restaurant Awards 2022 said: “It is true that Wales combines tastes and flavours from all over the world, where visitors can find different restaurants to meet their needs.

“These awards aim to thank those that work hard within the country’s food industry and contribute to making Wales a great culinary place to visit.

“It was lovely to be a part of this celebration and we would like to make sure that the hard work of Wales’s food professionals does not go unnoticed.

“The winners enhance the country’s reputation nationally and internationally and we would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their achievements.”
