Mandas Narusis, 31, has been jailed after he attacked a pensioner

A man who drunkenly smashed a car window before punching a pensioner multiple times in the face has been jailed.

Mandas Narusis, 31, of Sycamore Crescent, Risca, left his 74-year-old victim in hospital for four days after the attack.

The incident happened on on Commercial Street, between the Tamarind restaurant and the Texaco garage, on September 25 last year.

Narusis pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent, as well as criminal damage.

He appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on May 7, where he was handed a two-year and eight-month jail sentence.

PC Jennifer Evans, of Gwent Police, said: “Mandas Narusis attacked the motorist, who stopped sharply to avoid colliding with him, after he walked out into Commercial Street while drunk.

“He then launched an unprovoked and sustained attack on the elderly man, who had just popped out to the shops.

“The victim spent four days in hospital following this distressing incident. I hope that the victim can regain his confidence that he has lost as a direct result of this attack.”

PC Evans added: “Narusis will now have time to reflect on his behaviour. Hopefully he will use that time wisely.”
