The family of a cyclist who was killed in a collision in Bedwas over the weekend have paid tribute to their “beloved husband, father and grandfather”.
Michael Partridge, 76, who was from the Bedwas area, died after a collision on Pandy Road at around 1pm on Saturday, September 25.
The crash involved Mr Partridge’s bicycle and a Ford Transit, as well as a Hyundai Tucson and a Vauxhall Vivaro, which were both parked at the time.
Mr Partridge was pronounced dead at the scene by an air ambulance doctor.
Paying tribute to Mr Partridge, his family said: “He was taken from us too early in tragic circumstances doing what he loved.
“Dedicated to his family, he loved his time with his grandchildren, often playing and teasing them into fits of laughter.
“He was also a devoted husband who loved the harbour in Weymouth, watching boats and listening to the ocean waves with wife Pamela.
“A former Llanwern steelworker, painter and decorator, he was a man who worked hard and loved life.
“His other passions were music – he was involved with Aber Valley Male Voice Choir for many years and until recently Caerphilly Male Voice Choir – and rugby, where he volunteered and was a committee member with Bedwas Rugby Club.
“The family has asked for understanding and privacy during this difficult time. We would like to thank everyone for their support.”
Bedwas Rugby Club also paid tribute to Mr Partridge and said: “Mike was a popular and much respected member of the club. He had volunteered for the club for many years, often working as a match day steward and painting and decorating the clubhouse.
“Mike was a big character in the club and was always filled with humour and quick wit. He was a kind and big-hearted member of our community and we will miss him terribly.
“We wish to pass on our deepest condolences to his wife Pam, his children and grandchildren, as well as all his friends in the club, the choir and beyond.”
A 50-year-old man from Bedwas was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released under investigation.
