Llyr Gruffydd has been confirmed as Plaid Cymru’s new interim leader after the party’s national council confirmed his appointment.
Mr Gruffydd, who represents the North Wales region in the Senedd, has stepped up to the role while the party looks for a new leader.
It comes after the resignation of Adam Price, who had led the party since 2018.
Price stepped down after the damning ‘Project Pawb’ report highlighted a “culture of harassment, bullying and misogyny” within the party.
A new permanent leader is expected to be in place by the summer, with nominations for the leadership closing on June 16.
Mr Gruffydd, who was nominated to the interim leadership by Plaid Cymru Senedd Members, said: “Despite it being short, my tenure as the interim leader of Plaid Cymru comes at a critical juncture for the party.
“We’ve been reflecting, we are reforming, and we will renew our mission in light of the findings of Project Pawb.”
The new interim leader said the report’s findings “run counter to our core beliefs and values” and continued: “In our period of reflection we remind ourselves of what Plaid Cymru aspires to be – an inclusive party, a party that values its staff, a party founded on the best principles of progressive action – with fairness and equality embedded in its DNA.”
He said reform “will be the priority” for the party and added: “Moving forward, united, we will put down new and stronger foundations with our ambition undimmed.”
