A RecRock music group at Bargoed Library

A night of music celebrating the tenth anniversary of Caerphilly-based social enterprise RecRock is coming to Blackwood Miners’ Institute.

The celebration event is being held on Tuesday November 7 and will include performances from groups from across the country.

RecRock, which is based at Caerphilly Business Park, was set up as a not-for-profit social enterprise in 2013.

One of the activities it’s currently running is a youth project in Blackwood. The project, which runs during school holidays, brings young people together to look at themes of diversity and inclusion through song-writing and performing.

Meanwhile, RecRock also runs an adult project in New Tredegar and Rhymney, aiming to reduce social isolation and improve mental health and wellbeing.

Speaking about RecRock’s beginnings, its project leader Dan Fitzgerald said: “When I started the project, I wasn’t sure what it was meant to be, or how it would work. I just wanted to share my love of making music with other people.”

Dan continued: “RecRock has flourished over ten years into something rather amazing.

“I’ve learned about how music can affect mental health, the power of communities and what can happen if people come together with a shared interest.

“On top of that I’ve met some brilliant people who I now call friends, who make me laugh and smile on a weekly basis. I really do have the best job in the world.”

The anniversary evening will include performances from those who have taken part in previous and current RecRock projects, including Revolution Rabbit Deluxe, Caerphilly People First, Right Keys Only, Robyn and The Flock, Coal River County Boys and more.

While tickets for the event are free, attendees are required to sign up for tickets.

Visit Blackwood Miners’ Institute’s website to sign up for the tickets.
