A 14-year-old boy from Pantside, Newbridge, has been given an Antisocial Behaviour Order (ASBO).

Macauley Chiles, aged 14, from Central Avenue, Pantside, Newbridge, was given a two year ASBO by Cwmbran Magistrates last month after a series of incidents dating back to December 2009.

The court was told that Chiles frequently displayed antisocial, nuisance and abusive behaviour in and around the Newbridge area.

Despite a number of warnings from the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership, the boy’s bad behaviour continued.

The ASBO prevents Macauley Chiles, anywhere within the Caerphilly County Borough Council area from:

  • Acting or inciting others to act in an antisocial manner, that is to say, a manner that causes or is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to one or more persons, not of the same household
  • Throwing any object at any person in a public place
  • Shouting at or swearing at any person in a public place
  • Lighting a fire on land to which the public has access
  • Being present when someone else starts or tries to start a fire in a public place, except when at an event organised by the Council or other public bodies
  • Urinating in a public place
  • Making obscene hand gestures towards any person in a public place
  • Entering Newbridge Leisure Centre or its car park or the astro turf area behind.

PC Karen Gifford, crime and disorder reduction officer for Risca, said: “Macauley Chiles’ abusive, nuisance behaviour was having a huge impact on the quality of life of residents in the area. Without this order his behaviour would have escalated.

“The ASBO was a necessary move that will now resolve an issue that has been going on for over a year. We have a commitment within Gwent Police to work with our partners and tackle antisocial behaviour – if you are a victim of anti-social behaviour, please make it your priority to contact Gwent Police immediately.”
