The swimming pool at Newbridge Leisure Centre has been closed for retiling and will be out of use for around six weeks.
Workers had originally closed the pool to repair a few loose tiles, but it was then decided the entire pool needed retiling. This meant the pool needed to be completely drained.
The work has coincided with a planned refurbishment of the reception and changing room areas.
Cllr David Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said: “We appreciate that the current closure of the pool may be a cause of inconvenience however rest assured the works will be completed as quickly as possible and will provide an enhanced facility for residents to enjoy.”
This is long overdue but I just hope that the changing rooms when refurbished now provide some privacy because they are too open plan and people who have had mastectomies need a certain level of privacy which they have not been getting to date in the changing rooms.
I'm a single parent (male) with a daughter too young too change herself for swimming. They could not provide us with a mixed/family changinmg area. I explained the situation to receptionist and manager, even the manager could not suggest anything! I was not expecting this, and left not entirely happy, needless to say, my daughter felt the same. I feel that new tiles are not all that is needed there, to meet 21st century expectations.
