Primary school pupils from around Newbridge have taken part in workshops to learn about trees and their role in the environment.

Year 3 and Year 4 pupils from Pentwynmawr, Ty Newydd, Pantside primary schools celebrated National Tree Week, held between Monday November 28 and Friday December 2, with a series of activities – culminating in the planting of a native cherry tree at Pantside Community Woodland Park.

Activities included calculating the cost of repairing a fence, and learning how to measure a tree’s age. Workshops were funded through the Plant Project – a Welsh Government initiative to plant a tree for every baby born or adopted.

Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development said: “I am delighted that so many pupils were given the opportunity to take part in National Tree Week, which celebrates the launch of the winter tree planting season.

“Well done to all pupils who took part in the tree planting, which will benefit the local area in years to come.”
