The terminally ill mother of a missing man has died almost five years to the day since he disappeared.

Kyle Vaughan, 24, was last seen on December 30, 2012, when his damaged silver Peugeot 306 was found on the A467 between Risca and Crosskeys. Police suspect he has been murdered.

Mother Mary Lucas passed away aged 55 on January 1, not knowing what happened to her son.

After being diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2015 she made an emotional appeal to find her son’s remains before time ran out for her.

Speaking to mark the third anniversary in 2015, she said: “Somebody knows where he is and somebody knows what happened to him.

“I’m making this appeal because I’ve been told I’ve got months or weeks left to live. I just want to find Kyle and lay him to rest so that when my time comes I can go with Kyle.”

Police believe Mr Vaughan’s car was in a crash and that he had managed to walk away from it.

Gwent Police made eight arrests in connection with Mr Vaughan’s disappearance, which they are treating as murder, but all were released without charge.
