Laurie Jones had been reported as missing

The body of a woman found in a car in a river has been identified as that of a  missing nurse.

Paediatric nurse Laurie Jones, 23, from Pontllanfraith was last seen leaving the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff at around 1.40am on Tuesday, October 1.

Ms Jones’ car was found in the river at around 1pm on Tuesday, October 1 near the B4251 road near Wyllie.

Gwent Police has confirmed the woman in the vehicle has been formally identified as Ms Jones.

Officers are not treating her death as suspicious and specialist offices are supporting her family.

Police said Ms Jones’ family would like to thank everyone for their kind words and support, and for sharing the appeal to help find Laurie when she was reported missing. They ask that they are now left alone to grieve in private as a family.
