A drug dealer caught by plain clothes police has been jailed.

Joe Hughes, 21, of Cedar Road, Trinant, was caught by officers on October 15 this year after they saw him get into a car to do a drug deal.

The illicit sale happened at around 2pm in the centre of the village, which is near Newbridge.

He was found with plastic snap bags of cannabis, two mobile phones and two bags of cocaine.

A search of Hughes’ home found more than £5,100 cash, cannabis, and two BB guns in a safe. A butterfly knife was also found under some floorboards.

Appearing at Cardiff Crown Court earlier this month, Hughes admitted charges of supplying a controlled drug of class A – cocaine; supplying a controlled drug of class B – cannabis; and possession with intent to supply cannabis.

He was imprisoned to two years and four months.

PC Mark Ling, the officer involved in the case, said: “Gwent Police’s Serious Organised Crime and Disruption Team work tirelessly to disrupt those involved in the supply and distribution of drugs. Hughes was caught carrying out a drug deal, subsequently his house was searched whereby officers found more drugs and evidence of his dealing.

“I welcome the sentence handed to Hughes which I hope sends a message that we will not tolerate the supply of drugs in our communities. Please keep telling us about your concerns about drug dealing so we can take action.”
