Police have reiterated that their investigation to find out what happened to Kyle Vaughan is still active – eight years to the day since he went missing.

Kyle, of Newbridge, has not been seen since December 30, 2012 when he was spotted driving on the A467. His damaged silver Peugeot 306 was later found on the same road at around 11.45pm between Risca and Crosskeys.

Police believe Kyle’s car was in a crash and that he had managed to walk away from it.

At the time of his disappearance, police believe Kyle was wearing a dark-coloured beanie hat, a dark coloured t-shirt, three-quarters length denim shorts, white trainers and a gold chain at the time he went missing.

A missing person inquiry was launched and later became a murder investigation.

While eight people have been arrested in connection with the disappearance over the years, no one has been charged.

Eight arrested and released without charge

• A 22-year-old woman from Newbridge arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
• A 62-year-old man from Newbridge arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
• A 21-year-old man from Newbridge arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
• A 15-year-old boy from Abercarn arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
• A 27-year-old woman from Cwmfelinfach arrested on suspicion of murder.
• A 28-year-old man from Cwmfelinfach arrested on suspicion of murder.
• A 25-year-old man from Blackwood arrested on suspicion of murder.
• A 27-year-old man from Blackwood arrested on suspicion of murder.

In October 2016, Kyle, who attended Cwmcarn High School, was officially presumed dead by the High Court.

In 2018, Kyle’s mother, Mary, passed away after a terminal illness, not knowing what happened to her son.

Kyle’s father, Alan, speaking in August to mark his son’s 32nd birthday, said: “We want to find Kyle. It would be good to know that Mary will be with him.”

Detective chief superintendent Nicky Brain, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our investigation into what happened to Kyle that night in December remains very much active.  

“Eight years on and we remain in regular contact with Kyle’s family, and continue to receive information from members of the public, all of which is recorded and investigated by officers on our major incident team. 

“This has obviously been an extensive enquiry.  To date, 40 areas have been searched, over 200 people interviewed, over 180 intelligence logs submitted and nearly 900 witness statements taken. 

“Unfortunately though, we still don’t have the answers we need, and Kyle’s family so desperately want.

“We are still keen to receive any information that may assist our enquiries, however minor you may feel it is.”
