South Wales East Assembly Member Steffan Lewis has expressed disappointment that Crumlin was not on a Welsh Government priority list of railway stations to be reopened.

The Plaid Cymru AM politician said: “We are seeing significant transport investment in the South Wales Metro, which promises improved transport links for the whole region. Crumlin is in a key location and could have been an important transport hub as part of the scheme.

“The site for the station has good road links, a substantial car park and space for buses. It has good access to Oakdale Business Park and Pen-y-Fan and Croespenmaen Industrial Estates. Walking and cycling routes are also accessible from the site. It has the potential to be a significant public transport hub.

“Crumlin has a street with the poorest air pollution in the UK outside of London, the case for better public transport in the area is a public health issue as well.”

Responding to Mr Lewis in the Senedd recently, Economy and Infrastructure secretary Ken Skates AM said he would be happy to meet with Mr Lewis to discuss the issue.

He said: “I should just say that this is an ongoing process.

“Once the assessment of the priority list is completed, there will be an opportunity to then consider the next group of regional stations.”
