Rugby legend Shane Williams visit to Caerphilly for wear red for Velindre

News | | Published: 14:57, Friday February 9th, 2018.

Rugby legend Shane Williams dropped into Twyn Primary School in Caerphilly town on Friday, February 2, to show his support for the ‘Wear Red for Wales and Velindre’ campaign.

The ex-Wales winger is an ambassador for Velindre Cancer Centre and was invited to the school by fellow Velindre ambassador Trevor Isaac, the Managing Director of estate agent Brinsons.

Mr Isaac said: “Brinsons have supported this charity for several years so when the opportunity presented itself to partner with a school for this fundraising initiative it seemed logical for me to approach the Twyn school which is where my children attended.

“I have known Shane for many years as I also originate from Ammanford, his home town.

“We have participated in several charitable adventures together such as cycling in New Zealand last summer and trekking in Patagonia back in 2016.

“Shane is always on hand to support the charity and fundraising initiatives of this nature and readily accepted the opportunity to come to Caerphilly and attend the Twyn.

“Shane thought the children were great and the school staff very welcoming – a humbling experience.

“One small boy quietly approached Shane, looked up at him and said ‘Shane you are my hero’.

“‘It brought a tear to my eye,’ he said.”
